Iran Warns UN Security Council Resolution Could Undermine Credibility
The resolution, reportedly prepared by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), condemns Iran's missile and drone strikes targeting Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. It also calls for an immediate halt to all such assaults.
"Some Council members are attempting to reverse the roles and positions of victim and aggressor," Amir Saeid Iravani stated during a press briefing at UN headquarters in New York regarding Wednesday’s vote. He added: "They seek to reward the aggressors and punish the victim through a biased and politically motivated resolution."
Iravani emphasized that "such action, if adopted, would severely damage and undermine the credibility and legitimacy of the Council," warning that the implications would be long-lasting.
He further asserted, "If adopted, it will be a stain on the credibility and reputation of the Security Council," adding that "if adopted, the aggressor, Israel and the United States, will be rewarded and emboldened to carry out further acts of aggression."
